Phoenix, Arizona-A Taste Of The American West
Have you taken a trip out west to places like Arizona, New Mexico or Nevada? The Southwest is a distinctive part of the United States whose geography and history make it unique and a wonderful area to explore as a tourist. There’s a reason why Hollywood has very often used desert backdrops in places like Monument Valley in Arizona in films: the landscape is huge in scale and has an almost mythical quality about it. With its great Southwestern food and cheap hotels, Phoenix is an excellent place to use as a base if you decide to come to this part of the country for a visit. I’d suggest renting a car and doing a couple of short road trips. Oh, one more thing: are you a golfer? Don’t miss the prime golf courses in and around the Phoenix area!
Of course there is the Grand Canyon, which you can visit as part of a two-day trip from Phoenix if your time is a little limited. This is one of the must-see destinations on the planet and the sight of it absolutely lives up to the expectations you probably have of it. You must see the Grand Canyon at least once-is breathtaking.
Sedona, Arizona is known by desert lovers as a breathtaking spot in the mountains, just a couple of hours north of Phoenix, with an interesting counter culture and first-class spas, restaurants and accommodations. Believe it or not, there are even vineyards in the Sedona area!
Another trip you can take from Phoenix would be to visit the smaller, slower-paced city of Tucson a couple of hours south on Hwy. 10, and an hour beyond that you’ll find the aptly named town of Tombstone, Arizona. This is the real Wild West: Tombstone is rich with history, associated as it is with Wyatt Earp and the OK corral.
In a region of the United States that’s really underrated as a tourist destination, you should consider Phoenix, Arizona for your next holiday, especially in the winter months. Its natural beauty and proximity to Mexico, great outdoor activities such as golf all year around, and with destinations like the Grand Canyon not too far away, it makes a fine hub for further explorations. As a bonus, when it comes to food and cheap Phoenix hotels you’ll note that travel expenses like these are easier on the budget than they are in many American cities, too.
