Plan Your Next Family Vacation
Since we work hard all year long we deserve a great vacation to play hard too! There are many things to consider when planning your dream vacation. Where do we want to go? When should we go? What do we want to do when we get there? Is there a good mix of family and adult entertainment?
Here are some tips to help narrow down your options:
1. If your kids are traveling with you, find a destination that markets itself as ‘family friendly’. Many resorts and hotels cater specifically to adults and you and your family would feel out of place in them. Once you’ve found your family friendly option check to see if they have activities that you and your spouse will enjoy solo. You don’t want a choice that the children can’t have fun at, but don’t you and your husband want an evening in a nice wine bar too?
2. Get the entire families input. Even if you and your wife have your heart set on where the two of you would like to go, you won’t have fun if the kids don’t want to be there. You could even consider creating a list of five places the two of you prefer and letting the kids pick the final spot. This way everyone has some say.
3. The tried and true can be an easy out, but try something new. If you spend all year in the same job and the same house, how about spending each vacation in a fun new spot? Look for a different climate or terrain. Or go somewhere and try something that isn’t yet crossed off your Bucket List. Maybe a cheap all inclusive cruise is something you’d like to try.
4. Once you’ve picked your destination, shop around. With the ease of price comparison literally at you fingertips you have more control than you think. Tourism is down and many hotels, resorts, car rental dealers, and excursion companies have coupons online. Place a bid at a websites that allows you to bid for your package. Consider traveling in your destinations off season to drastically reduce rates.
5. Safety is first. Especially if you are traveling out of the country check with your doctor to see if any vaccinations and medical safety measures need to be taken prior to travel. Call your insurance company to see what kind of coverage you have out of the state or outside of the country. You can purchase travel insurance at reasonable prices prior to traveling if necessary.
6. Have Fun! Whatever you end up doing this is the goal right? Take time to enjoy your vacation’s unique scenery. Roll with the punches and take lots of pictures.
